Discoveries at Whirlow Hall Farm

Time Travellers Archaeology Group

Sunday 30th July at 10am and 1.30pm pre-booked only

The Time Travellers Archaeology Group will be offering an opportunity to find out about recent ‘Discoveries at Whirlow Hall Farm’ as part of this year’s UK-wide Festival of Archaeology.

The event will offer two introductory sessions on the recent Roman and prehistory discoveries at Whirlow Hall Farm Trust. Each will include an introductory talk, display of finds, guided walk and a visit to the excavation site.

Following the initial discovery of the Roman site during 2011, The Time Travellers group gained a £60.000 HLF grant to return to the site, to further excavate its Roman and Iron Age remains. Field walking and geophysical surveys expanded knowledge of the areas prehistory and discovered the site of a Roman signal station on what was until recently a forgotten Roman frontier.

This event is free to attend and will be run twice on Sunday 30th July at 10am and 1.30pm. Numbers are limited so please book by email at: md2.coggins@talktalk.net

The Festival of Archaeology is the largest celebration of archaeology in the world with hundreds of events nationwide. It is coordinated by, the Council for British Archaeology, the UK’s archaeology charity and funded by Historic England and Cadw. The Festival is made up of events run by over 400 museums, heritage organisations, community groups and volunteers.

The Time Travellers are proud to be part of this prestigious event which matches its own goals to widen involvement in archaeology and put people in touch with their own heritage. The Festival runs between 15 and 30 July and promises something for everyone on the theme of archaeology. To find out about other local events, go to: https://www.festivalofarchaeology.org/
