A Celebration of Achievement

It was lovely to see so many of our students, their families and friends at this year's Celebration of Achievement.

We had a lovely time on Tuesday evening celebrating everything that our students have achieved over the past year.  It was great to spend time with them, their families, friends and supporters.

The Celebration of Achievement is an annual event, and something that the children and young adults work towards throughout the year.  It's been growing year-on-year, testament to the great work our education team do with youngsters from across the city.  It gives the students a chance to show the Farm off to their families and friends, and put what they've heard into context - you really do need to meet Barry the turkey to understand why it might take 3 or 4 students to put him in his pen at night!

There was masses to do and see. As well as showing their families and friends the Old Hen House, they also saw our brand new Gateway kitchen - where the student-made pizza and rhubarb muffins proved very popular! There was also a chance to introduce them to Rosie and Horatio the cows, the guinea pigs and other animals, before heading indoors.  This year there was also an Art show in the Barn cafe, as well Farm olympics in the Lambing Barn; turns out welly wanging is harder than you think! 

Then, after a bite to eat from the Whirlow barbeque, Head of Education John Gray presented students with their certificates of achievement - including AQA awards for many - for their hard work over the past 12 months.

So congratulations to all of our students for another great year and to our Education team for providing them with the support and help they needed to get there; with student attendence rates of 90% you are clearly getting it right!

Inevitably this may be the last time we see some of the young folk - as students at least.  We wish those that are leaving all the very best for the future, and hope you remember to come back up to see us from time-to-time - you know you'll always be one of the Whilrow Team!
