Another successful year for the vineyard

A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped to make this year’s harvest a success.

Both white and red grapes in our vineyard have now been harvested for another year and, despite a miserable summer, it was a great result and we expect around 3,000 bottles of Whirlow wine next year. 

We couldn't do this without the hard work of the Whirlow volunteers, folk from our supporters such as Gripple and Aviva, our Trustees, and staff from all departments. We were also joined by youngsters from our Whirlow LIFE programmes who, as well as picking and carrying, handed out oaty-fruit-crumble bars which had been made in the Gateway kitchen; a very welcome mid-morning snack! 

A special mention to Derek who has been the driving force behind the vineyard for years. Without him we wouldn’t even get to harvest time, and the students wouldn’t benefit from all that the sale of wine enables.
