Kate and Corey’s unforgettable love story at Whirlow
9.1.2024
Kate and Corey's love story is like something out of a rom com, but with a Yorkshire twist.
Corey is from Sheffield, and Kate hails from the Wirral, but as teachers in the same Sheffield primary school, fate threw them together in the stockroom, surrounded by more teaching supplies than you can shake a ruler at. However, it wasn't until they found themselves on a Whirlow school residential trip that their connection truly blossomed.
Fast forward to a chilly February in 2023, and Corey surprised Kate by popping the question at More Hall Reservoir. They planned to head over to celebrate at The Barn Café at Whirlow, but the engagement ring decided to play hide-and-seek with its diamond. Cue a hilarious search, followed by a towed car; definitely not the proposal either of them had imagined although they now agree they can see the funny side and enjoy having a story to tell.
The decision to celebrate their wedding at Whirlow was a no-brainer for the couple; having witnessed a wedding while enjoying coffee at our Barn Café with Kate’s parents, the idea lingered in all their minds until their engagement. A call to Sarah, the Farm's Head of Fundraising and Events, revealed a serendipitous cancellation, and with the support of their church, the whirlwind planning began.
Incredibly, with the support of our events team, they managed to plan the wedding in just over three months, and in August 2023, they exchanged vows at their church, and then celebrated at the Farm with 100 family and friends, enjoying canapes on arrival along with Whirlow’s sparkling wine (made with grapes grown on our very own vineyard) and then sitting down to feast on Whirlow’s gourmet barbeque.
“Whirlow’s relaxed atmosphere perfectly captured our essence. The picturesque scenery provided a stunning backdrop for our photos. Even though my wedding dress was filthy by the end, it was all part of the experience of the Farm's charm!”
Although a stunning wedding venue, our main purpose is to support children and young people who struggle with anxieties. They may be suffering with medical or mental health issues, learning disabilities, or heart-breaking personal circumstances such as bereavement. One hundred percent of the fee paid to hold a wedding at Whirlow goes back into our work to support these vulnerable children and young people.
Looking back, Kate and Corey see Whirlow Hall Farm as more than a wedding venue. It's where their love story unfolded—with magic in the air, joy, laughter, and a touch of whimsy. Their story at Whirlow is an open invitation for others to consider this gem for their own love tales as well as having a wedding with a purpose. After all, who wouldn't want a bit of Yorkshire charm for their happily ever after?
