Philosophy for Children (P4C) Training
12.1.2018
Thank you to Kate Halliwell for an entertaining training session on introducing philosophy to children on a farm!
The education team were delighted to welcome Kate Halliwell to the farm this week. Using animals as a stimulus, she demonstrated to our staff and volunteers how to run a philosophical enquiry for a group of children. A philosophical enquiry sounds technical but in reality is a fun group activity involving games and props, such as the “woolly hat of delight”, and plenty of discussion and debate. We learnt how to support children to use language to communicate their ideas, agree and disagree politely, ask questions and listen to people with different views and perspectives from their own. Our enquiry culminated around a debate about ‘whether we should eat animals at all’ - a challenging and important debate for a group of educators based on a farm!
