Roma-Slovak cultural awareness training
A brilliant morning with David Kandrac and Tim Neal exploring the history and culture of the Roma-Slovak people and how we can improve our practice with Roma children.
The education team started the new year with a fascinating training day for all our staff and volunteers. Thank you to David Kandrac and Tim Neal for leading the morning’s workshop on Roma-Slovak cultural awareness. With the recent increase in the numbers of Roma-Slovak children accessing our education, we were all keen to learn more about the Roma people who have recently made Sheffield their home, and how we can work more effectively with the children who visit us. The training was excellent at addressing stereotypes and breaking down prejudice as well as coming up with some great ideas for our work. We are already exploring how we can integrate music into our sessions, and communicating our activities via Facebook in order to reach Roma parents.
