Recent school exclusion statistics have again highlighted a growing problem in our education system.

This is an extremely complex issue. Using the word ‘abandoned’ isn’t helpful. These children have complex needs and poor mental health and schools are under immense pressure in a number of ways. We know that outcomes are poor for permanently excluded children and for the last three years we’ve been working with the schools of Sheffield and the City Council to support these vulnerable children before they are permanently excluded. 95% of the children we have worked with have remained in their mainstream settings.
