Whirlow's volunteer coordinator, Shirley
4.6.2024
Shirley is Whirlow’s Volunteer Coordinator and has been volunteering at Whirlow for almost nine years!
Originally from Liverpool but relocated to Sheffield in 1986, Shirely worked as a computer programmer for HSBC before ending up in Risk Management. Having retired in December 2014, by the following July, Shirley was looking for something to do and had friends volunteering at Whirlow so offered to help too. She started by splitting her time between the shop and the old cruck barn cafe before helping the finance team in the office and has stayed in admin since then.
Shirley said: “I volunteer at Whirlow because I like having a purpose and getting involved. I’ve discovered I still like a challenge and have learnt new skills from mastering the iPad tills to the cafe coffee machines!”
Shirley lives with her husband a few miles from the farm, and they have four children and six grandchildren. When she isn’t busy with her family or Whirlow, she can be found singing with her choir, playing or watching sports, or at a sewing class making items for premature or disadvantaged babies.
Shirley is now focusing on updating our volunteer database, as well as streamlining our volunteer recruitment and management processes.
Shirley is “Pleased and proud to be a part of the team!”
